Overview
The MISSION of the WABIP Rare Lung, Airway and Pleura Disorders section is to inform and educate physicians and their patients about the diagnosis, treatment and genetics of these diseases. Most innovative diagnostic modalities and minimally invasive therapeutic procedures are key to advancing the care of patients with rare lung, airway and pleural disorders. Our VISION is to improve the knowledge and technical skills of doctors caring for these patients, and to help identify centers of expertise for patient referrals.
Many rare lung, airway and pleural diseases are of genetic origin and involve multiple organs as part of systemic disorders or syndromes. Examples of our group's area of interest include: Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (GPA) formerly known as Wegener's Granulomatosis, airway manifestations of rheumatoid arthritis and other connective tissue diseases, infrequent airway tumors such as lymphoma, leiomyoma, chondroma, adenoid cystic carcinoma, hamartoma, Glomus tumors, inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor, and pleural mesothelioma.
