Travel Grants 2020 – Now Accepting Applications!

We are pleased to announce that as a result of the great experiences and successful outcomes of the grantee scholars from the previous two years, the WABIP will be accepting again applications for the following two travel grants:



WABIP Visiting Scholar Travel Grant


PURPOSE: To expand the practice of Interventional Pulmonology and Disease Management in a developing country, by providing financial support to the scholar (grantee) to travel abroad for one-on-one mentorship with a known expert who will continue to follow-up with the scholar upon the scholar’s return to his or her country.

COVERAGE: The WABIP will cover airfare and other travel expenses as well as part of lodging expenses (depending on submitted budgets) for the scholar, up to a total amount of $5000 USD.

ELIGIBILITY: A WABIP member who is able to affect change in his or her country, and who is from a Low Income or Lower-Middle Income economy, according to World Bank classifications. See list of eligible countrieshere.

REQUIREMENTS: The candidate must:

  1. Send us the completed application form (download) by December 1, 2019
  2. Provide a detailed travel itinerary with budget items
  3. Provide a letter of endorsement from his/her institution addressed to the WABIP Executive Board, detailing the need of training by the institution
    Examples of training include: (a) EBUS training to begin an EBUS practice in a university hospital as part of a new national lung cancer management program, (b) Thoracoscopy and Thoracic Ultrasound training as part of building a national thoracic ultrasound teaching program improving pleural disease management, (c) Bronchoscopy Cryobiopsy training in order to initiate a university-based cryobiopsy practice and develop a multidisciplinary approach to managing patients with interstitial lung disease.
  4. Provide a confirmation letter from host institution that proves the institution is ready to accept the candidate

OUTCOME MEASURES: The selected candidate must submit a report immediately after training and another report one year after implementation of changes in his or her country.

RECOGNITION: An article about the visiting scholar will be placed in the WABIP Newsletter, on the WABIP website, and the scholar will be acknowledged at the WABIP World Congress.

SELECTION: The grantee will be selected by vote of the WABIP Executive Board.



WABIP Society Visiting Professor Travel Grant


PURPOSE: In order to help educate members of a developing country’s bronchology society in bronchology and interventional pulmonology.

COVERAGE: The WABIP will pay airfare and travel expenses for one speaker/member of the WABIP to attend and teach at the country’s congress, up to a total amount of $5000 USD. The speaker/member shall be determined by the Executive Board, in consideration of the needs of the candidate. The society must agree to cover all hotel and meal requirements for the WABIP Visiting Professor.

ELIGIBILITY: The candidate must be a member society of the WABIP representing physicians from a Low Income, Lower-Middle Income or Upper-Middle Income economy, according to World Bank classifications. See list of eligible countrieshere.

Applications should be submitted by the President of the society, the Congress President, or other members of the society’s leadership.

REQUIREMENTS: The candidate/society must:

  1. Send us this completed application form (download) by December 1, 2019, for conferences or congresses that will be held in 2020.
  2. Send the program or agenda for the congress with a list of confirmed speakers and topics

OUTCOME MEASURES: The society must submit a report of the congress describing the congress agenda, speakers, workshops and a paragraph explaining how the congress advances the missions of the WABIP and the country’s bronchology association.

RECOGNITION: An article about the society and its congress will be placed in the WABIP Newsletter, on the WABIP website, and the society will be acknowledged at the WABIP World Congress.

SELECTION: The grantee will be selected by vote of the WABIP Executive Board.
